Carmen Joseph
Carmen Maud Joseph, proud daughter of Norah and Levi Rattray, died 07.04.2020. Carmen is survived by siblings Daphne, Pamela, Thelma, Keith, Dimple, Densey, Winston and Pat. Carmen answered the Windrush call for nurses and spent over 50 years doing what she loved, working in hospitals in the UK and America, treating patients from the four corners of the world. She finally was able to retire and thanks to Udi Inko-Tariah and Denise Marks, whose kindness, dedication and sheer joy of life, helped her to have a fun packed, drama filled, dancing, singing, third age as part of a safe, secure, warm community in Hackney and then Tower Hamlets. Carmen is survived by her children: Blossom, Janet, Sounia, Duncan, Karen and Philip and grandchildren Michael, Nicole, Tassima, Thales, Aaron, Elijah, Andre, Travis, Amani and Alicia, and great grandchildren Tian, Nicole and Kai. Our mum was the life and soul of the party, who loved a drama, drinking her white rum and dancing the night away. Our mum loved a story and loved a drama. She did not want to go quietly into the night. She wanted something unforgettable. In the end, she passed away in hospital (her second home) the dedicated, hard working staff at the Royal London hospital, fighting hard to save her until she passed away of Covid 19 in the middle of a global pandemic. Just as she wanted: story to tell. We will never forget you mum.
