Baby boomers are on the rise in Islington, according to a new analysis of census data.
Those aged 50 to 64 made up 15.5 per cent of Islington’s population in 2021, a 3.2pc increase on 10 years earlier.
This made boomers the fastest growing demographic within the borough of Islington.
By comparison, the proportion of this age group rose by 2.5pc across London, and by 1.3pc in England.
The rise in 50-64 year olds living in the borough increased the median age of the area by two years. In 2011, the average Islington resident was 31 years old, but now that same person would be 33 years old.
This is still lower than the median age in London as a whole (35 years) and England (40 years).
Census data also suggests that young people have been moving out of the area. Those aged 20-24 now make up 8.5pc of Islington’s population, compared to 9.9pc in 2011.
