Traffic on a busy north London road has reached "gridlock" while almost a year of work to improve junctions is carried out.
In April this year, work began to make a number of junctions in Holloway Road “safer” for drivers and pedestrians.
At the time, Transport for London’s (TfL’s) Julie Lewington thanked residents in the area in advance for their patience during construction work, which is expected to take up to a year.
But more than two months into the works, many have raised concerns on social media about traffic queueing along the road while temporary lights are in place.
There is anger over delays and queueing traffic as a result of the temporary traffic lights installed near Holloway Road Tube station at the end of April.
One Twitter user criticised TfL and Islington Council, claiming that they “seem unable to address queueing traffic” in Holloway Road.
Wishing you a relaxing weekend. @tfl and @IslingtonBC seem unable to address queuing traffic on Holloway Rd, it needs a joined up approach. Residents would love to see some resolution on your snapshot list next Friday. https://t.co/PHyORhBRgb pic.twitter.com/eQMkYHNlc4

In the same thread, Highbury councillor and London Assembly member Caroline Russell said she had requested that TfL assess the traffic and its impact on the wider area.
Another Twitter user urged the councillor to do something about the "gridlock” in the road.
How about doing something about the gridlock on Holloway Road made worse by highbury ltn’s. That would be something worthwhile for next weeks tweet—open the highbury ltn’s for the duration of these major works on Holloway Road.

The “improvement” works include installing signalised pedestrian crossings at the junction with Drayton Park and resurfacing the road between the Tube station and Highbury Corner.
Islington Council said the work was not a local authority project and that TfL was best placed to comment on the situation.
A Transport for London (TfL) spokesperson said: “We are carrying out vital safety improvements to key junctions on Holloway Road to reduce road danger for people in the area.
“We’re sorry for any disruption that this is causing and are working hard to reduce this and to ensure the work is completed as quickly as possible.”
TfL said that it carried out a consultation with residents about the changes to the junction at Holloway Road and Drayton Park in 2019.
A consultation is currently under way on plans to change the junction of Pentonville Road, King’s Cross Road and Northdown Road.
