A new low traffic zone could be introduced in Islington at the start of next year.
The Mildmay Liveable Neighbourhood would impose new traffic restrictions in Newington Green and towards Dalston.
Through traffic would be blocked for those without a Blue Badge exemption in Mildmay Road and King Henry’s Walk.
A physical traffic barrier would prevent access to Queen Margaret's Grove and St Jude Street. In Boleyn Road, a one-way filter would block traffic travelling southbound.
As part of the proposals, two new school streets – in St Jude Street and in Mildmay Road – have been suggested.
These would introduce timed traffic restrictions during school drop-off and pick-up times for St Jude and St Paul's Primary School, the Children's House School, and Newington Green Primary School.
There are also plans to widen pavements and plant more trees in King Henry’s Walk and Mildmay Road.
Cllr Rowena Champion, Islington Council’s executive member for environment, air quality, and transport, said: “Over the past two years, we’ve been working with local people, groups, and businesses in Mildmay to understand how we can improve the area – and we’ve listened to and have reflected your ideas in our proposals."
A consultation on the proposals was launched yesterday (September 11) and will close on October 8.
There are currently seven existing low-traffic neighbourhoods (LTN) in Islington, with further schemes planned for seven more areas.
