An Indian PhD student has been named as the cyclist who died in a crash in Clerkenwell.
According to Times of India, 33-year-old Cheistha Kochhar’s husband was a few yards ahead of her on his bike when she was in a crash with a bin lorry.
The collision took place the junction between Clerkenwell Road and Farringdon Road shortly after 8.15pm last Tuesday evening (March 19).
Cheistha was found seriously injured, and despite the efforts of emergency services died at the scene.
The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries. No arrests have been made.
It has been reported that Cheistha moved to London with her husband last September to pursue a four-year PhD in organisational behaviour management on a full scholarship.
Amitabh Kant, former CEO of Indian Government think tank NITI Aayog, where Cheistha previously worked, paid tribute to the 33-year-old on X.
He said: “She was bright, brilliant & brave and always full of life. Gone away too early. RIP.”
