An councillor is stepping down after a decade in post, triggering a by-election.
Hillrise ward Cllr David Poyser announced earlier this month that he would be resigning, and Islington Council has now confirmed a by-election will be held on May 2.
In a letter to council leader Kaya Comer-Schwartz, Cllr Poyser thanked his colleagues in the Labour party and committed to continuing to make Islington a “world-leading” borough.
Listing his achievements in office, Cllr Poyser highlighted work to help prevent suicides in his ward at Archway Bridge.
He also wished Ollie Steadman, the Labour candidate for the upcoming by-election, “the best of luck” in his efforts to hold the council seat.
After a brilliant decade representing Hillrise Ward, Dave Poyser has decided to stand down as a councillor, with a by-election to be held on Thursday 2nd May.

Cllr Poyser, who first moved to Islington in 1979, won the most votes in Hillrise ward at the last local elections in 2022.
The newly elected councillor will join Labour’s Michelline Safi-Ngongo and Marian Spall in representing the area.
The by-election will take place on May 2, coinciding with votes for London Mayor and the London Assembly.
Nominations to be on the ballot close at 4pm next Friday (April 5).
