An Archway boxing club has warned that young people asking for money on their behalf are scammers.
People claiming to be fundraising for Islington Boxing Club have reportedly been asking for money in Canary Wharf, Hyde Park and Highbury Corner.
The club, which is located in Hazellville Road, warned its followers on Facebook last week after scammers were spotted in Finsbury Park.
The post reads: “We've had many reports from members of the public that there are youngsters going around in various parts of London asking for money on behalf of the club.
“We can confirm that this is NOT to do with Islington Boxing Club / Islington Community Sports Academy and that these are scammers. Please do NOT give money to these people!”
The club added that donations to the club should be made through official channels, including its JustGiving page.
It is not the first time that scammers have targeted people by claiming to be fundraising for the boxing club.
In 2016, Islington Gazette reported that a similar scheme had fleeced unsuspecting members of the public in the West End.
