Residents and businesses are being asked to share their views on plans to improve an historic high street.

Islington Council wants to hear people's ideas and feedback on how to make St John Street a better place for everyone.

The council is looking for suggestions until December 15. It has put forward several suggestions for improving the street.

These include planting new trees to enhance biodiversity and reduce flood risk, adding more benches and seating areas, and creating a peaceful space for workers to enjoy lunch breaks.

It also plans to reduce motor traffic, widen pavements and improve crossings.

A new cycle lane and historical interpretation elements celebrating the area's past are also part of the proposals.

Councillor Rowena Champion, Islington Council’s executive member for environment, air quality, and transport, said: "We’re committed to working closely with the local community to create vibrant, people-friendly streets.

"These improvements to St John Street will help to create attractive, accessible space for all, making it safer for people walking, wheeling and cycling.

"St John’s Street has a historical significance to this area, and we want to ensure that it is a well-used space today as it was way back when, and this project aims to pay homage to that.

"Your insights are essential to making this project a success, so if you live in, work in, or travel through the area, we encourage you to share your views."

To share your views on the St John Street designs, you can complete the survey online or pick up a paper copy at Finsbury Library or Islington Town Hall.

People are also welcome to join one of the public events—virtually on November 12, or in person on November 15 and 28—to review designs and discuss feedback with project officers.
