Islington Boxing Club welcomed two new coaches to their Competitive Amateur Boxing Squads prior to the club closing in December.

Jake Cutting, who joined the Junior Competitive Squad, has worked previously with Ipswich Town Football Club Academy and Community Trust as a programme manager and a coach.

He has been coaching boxing for more than five years with Eastgate ABC in the Eastern Counties. He is an England Boxing qualified coach (Level 1) and is hoping to take the Level 2 course once they resume.

Cutting currently works with NHS Improvement for the London Leadership Academy with a project focus on coaching and mentoring schemes.

He also previously worked for NHS England as a project support officer, with a focus on practitioner performance and GP appraisal and revalidation.

Simon Rose, who has joined the Senior Competitive Squad, recently transferred to the club from Fitzroy Lodge ABC in Lambeth, where he enjoyed many years of boxing and coaching.

One of the highlights from his in-ring amateur career was a win whilst representing London ABA away to Gothenburg, Sweden in 2016.

Simon has held a Level 2 amateur coaches’ badge for a number of years. He was previously involved with training young adults and kids from the local and wider communities with Carney’s Community in Battersea and the Black Prince Trust in Kennington.

Simon is a personal trainer by trade, having previously worked as a scaffolder on sites including Battersea Power Station.

The Hazellville Road based club have been closed since December due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
