Arsenal dominated Chelsea in a 3-1 win at the Emirates on Tuesday night, returning to winning ways after four games without success and adding to the pain for Frank Lampard’s side.

The Gunners flew out of the gates in a controlling first-half display, firing in three goals in the opening 34 minutes to put the game out of sight early on and put the defeat against Manchester City behind them.

Granit Xhaka put in a standout performance, finding acres of space in the left channel, teeing up two goals for skipper Martin Odegaard and running the game with his movement and passing.

Xhaka's unpredictable runs and positioning caused Chelsea problems time and time again, giving additional freedom to Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus ahead, and giving the Gunners a constant attacking threat.

Jesus was also particularly impressive on the night, bringing his typical energy, dribbling and movement to link the team together, and claiming Arsenal’s third after scrappy play in the box.

Jakub Kiwior came in for his first league start in place of Etihad goalscorer Rob Holding and, after a nervy opening, the Polish international handled himself well, pocketing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the first half and keeping the ball moving well on the attacking side.

It was a strong showing from the Gunners after taking only three points from a possible 12 and that costly loss against Manchester City which leaves the title out of their hands.

All Arsenal can do now is beat the teams in front of them to keep some pressure on City during the remaining games in case they slip up.

Mikel Arteta's men travel to St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon to face third-placed Newcastle, with Eddie Howe’s side in excellent form of late, including a 6-1 win over Tottenham in recent weeks. It will be a tough test and show of character for the Gunners.

It’s been a fantastic season for Arsenal who still remain in the title challenge, albeit with unlikely odds.

Arteta’s whole tenure has been about developing good habits, so finishing the final few games strong, including a win over Newcastle, would stand them in good stead.
