Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall admitted his side's 4-1 win over WSL champions Chelsea was the best they have played this season.

Alessia Russo netted twice in front of a record crowd at the Emirates Stadium to help seal victory, which left the Gunners level on points at the top with their title rivals.

But Eidevall, despite his delight, says the only thing that matters is how the season ends.

"It's a really strong performance, especially the first half where we killed the game," he told the BBC.

"This is the best we've played so far this season, we've showed the potential that we have, but we haven't really played at that level. So it was really pleasing to see.

"It's still two more games to Christmas. Even how great that was, we've got another game Wednesday and another game Saturday, it's not Christmas yet!

"The only thing that matters now is the end position in the league.

"It's great that we won today, a performance we're proud of, but lets not get carried away, it doesn't count for anything if we're not ready on Saturday against Tottenham."

Beth Mead opened the scoring in the eighth minute, cutting inside and firing into the roof of the net, but the visitors were back on terms soon after.

Amanda Ilestedt headed Arsenal back in front from a corner, with Russo making it 3-1 with a fine finish just two minutes later.

Russo then completed the scoring from the penalty spot in the second half and Eidevall was pleased to see Mead making more progress after her return from an ACL injury.

"You can see how that's coming step by step," he added.

"We're coming from the Villa game when she's coming on to play 10 minutes, but she has an impact and now she can start games and we can see the old Beth Mead, where she counter-presses.

"She's great in one-v-one ability, it's a joy to see her being back.

"I said enjoy yourself, it was really nice to see the performance, but the reality is we play Wednesday in the Conti Cup and that's really important so we need to be focused for that.

"Leah Williamson is progressing really well as well, she has started to come into lighter parts of team training now. We're in a good momentum of getting players back."

Two-goal Russo was delighted to do her bit for the cause and felt success was fully deserved.

"I don't think Sundays get much better than that," she said.

"We started really well, we wanted to come out and start positively. We worked hard in the week and we were ready.

"Every game is must-win for us. We had a tough start to the season but we knew where we want to go as a team.

"The league is so competitive, you can't take one game off, especially against a team like Chelsea."
